Prelude:

Hey. I've seen a lot of people calling ANY game out there a Monster Hunter clone, and to be frank, it's not accurate. This game has been likened to a "MH Clone", but I'm here to tell you that isn't necessarily true, and in the case of Lord of Arcana, that's actually a bad thing.

STORY: 1/5

There is none, or very little at all. You start off as a High level, uberpwning everything foolish enough to challenge you and your manliness, then you fight a giant dragon, hear some mysterious voices, and get teleported into a new world where you go to seek ultimate power. From there on, there's no story, and the game is broken up into missions which have VERY little background information.

GRAPHICS: 2.5/5

Now this is going to be a bit difficult to explain. The environment is rather bland, without much to look at. You have your swamps, Volcano's, Your forest. They all do their part, and never succeed in amazing you. You have your... Read more

This game had so much potential. However, if you like a serious grind and a difficult journey, then this is your game. This game could have been much better, but it felt like they had to make a game so difficult, that it would want you to play co-op. I don't think the PSP has a big co-op following here in the U.S. so this would not be a great solo game. Your weapons do not deal any amount of damage comparable to what the enemies do to you. They can kill you in 2-4 hits, while it takes you 20 or more. It is like fighting a bunch of "elite" mobs in MMORPG games, even at level 1. Also, the fights are not very interactive and the enemies are easily avoidable, but to just shoot, dodge, shoot, dodge multiply that combo by 20 times, it gets old quick. Also, the boss fights are boring. On average they take anywhere from 15-25 mins just for one boss fight. They use the same 3 mechanics each time, and atleast of of their attacks is so overpowered it knocks you out, and they continue to pounce... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars monster hunter clone, but easier, January 30, 2011

Lord of Arcana is a shameless rip-off than Monster Hunter, but is kind of fun and a lot more accessible -- and it appears to be quite playable solo (the most common way of playing psp games for people NOT in Japan).

So, if you've found Monster Hunter to be too frustrating or you're just looking for a decent new game in a similar vein, give it a try.
